Consider the Cake Handled

Hi, I’m Maxwell, the baker behind Atwood Baking Co.

Baking was never something I formally “got into.” It was always around me. I grew up watching my mother, grandmother, and sisters move through the kitchen with the kind of ease that only comes from doing something often and doing it well. Recipes were shared, tweaked, occasionally ignored, and more than a few nights were spent covered in flour trying to get something just right for a big family celebration or holiday. Those early experiences shaped not only how I bake, but why I bake.

What started as a lifelong love of baking, and more late-night flavor experiments than I should probably admit, has grown into a cottage bakery focused entirely on custom cakes. I believe a great cake should taste just as good as it looks (ideally better), and that flavor is what people remember long after the candles are blown out, the toasts are made, and the night winds down.

Every cake I make is built from scratch in small batches using thoughtfully sourced ingredients and combinations that feel both nostalgic and a little unexpected. Some are rich and indulgent, others light and bright, but all are designed to feel personal, intentional, and genuinely worth celebrating.

Working from a cottage kitchen allows me to stay hands-on with every detail while still delivering a polished, professional result. My goal is simple: to create cakes that feel special without feeling overdone, desserts that become part of the moment rather than just something served at the end of it.

Don’t just bring a cake. Bring THE cake
